About the Book

Humanity has received an unthinkable setback on the part of nature. Humans, realizing that they are now on the way to extinction, fall into chaos, while science seeks to reverse this unimaginable, astonishing and unexpected condition, although time is against them. Five years after the beginning of this event, without understanding its cause, without glimpsing the slightest light of hope to reverse it, and before the disconcert of the societies, the catastrophe begins.Albert leads a group of friends who are forced to leave their city, after the suburb in which they have lived their whole lives has been left outside the security perimeter that the army kept for forty-five years. Their plan is going deep into forests and build a shelter where they can live away from chaos, but Albert's constant fear of being found and killed by criminals leads him to conceive an insane idea that is rejected by his group of friends, except by Edward, the youngest male in the group, infected with Albert's fatalistic ideas.Together, Albert and Edward will create Citadel; a fortress-refuge conditioned at huge and ruined houses of what was once a suburb of very high surplus value, which they will populate with people fleeing their cities. From among those people who arrive at Citadel, Edward comes into contact with Josephine, an elderly woman devotee of religion who influences the thinking of the young man whom Albert has been preparing to be the leader of Citadel. Albert sees his project in jeopardy because of the interference of Josephine, but as Edward's leadership increases, Albert focuses his strategy on manipulating the faith of believers to ensure control and power at Citadel. "Always think first of yourself, and never worry about others. If you dare to make that your first rule, then you can become a powerful ruler."In the forest, the group of friends of Albert and Edward is adapting to their new habitat, convinced that it is the best alternative to lead a safe life. The three youngest women of the group, Romina, Natalie and Susanne, inspired by a work carried out by Albert almost three decades ago, start their own research work in which they will document the process of adaptation to nature of the new species, which twenty years ago begun to spread to other areas outside cities. That research, regardless of the purpose for which they carry it out, will serve to test themselves before their own adaptation, which will be the way they'll live for the rest of their lives. What they need to know to survive in nature, they will learn it from the individuals they observe.Among fear, ambition, and stupidity, Edward commits atrocities without being aware of the extent of his actions, and thus, without being aware of his actions, he saves the life of an innocent who is left to her fate unjustly. The arrival of Romelia gives a new meaning to the life of each member of the group, but at the same time, it makes them reflect about time, about their life, their destiny, and their future. Although the future that Romelia will find, it will be the one that humanity would never have wanted to find: "Reaching the future, then, has been going back to the past".
