A Holy Ghost in Mexico City is a love story and foreign intrigue populated with revolutionary students, saints, spies, and a mysterious ghost. It's 1961 and Raymond Watson, nineteen, is running away from his Seattle home for Mexico City. But why? He has no friends or family there. He doesn't even speak Spanish. Raymond wants to wipe the mirror clean of all that reflects who he is - his friends, family and country, even his native language.
The first person he encounters when stumbling off the bus to Mexico City is a beggar who seems to be starving. Later the beggar begins appearing in Raymond's dreams, and even once briefly in the hotel mirror.
Raymond is later found by Carla Johansen, an old Seattle friend with whom he falls in love. Carla's radical friends at the University challenge his faith-based beliefs with an irreligious perspective politically based on revolution and social justice, but is Carla the foreign exchange student she claims to be, or an imposter?
Which is more important, one's commitment to the ideology of social justice, one's devotion and obedience to God, or loyalty to a specific human being?
Who is this Holy Ghost who wanders the streets of Mexico City influencing lives and events? Is it the beggar who visits Raymond in his dreams, or Raymond himself? A Holy Ghost in Mexico City is full of tension, danger and adventure, while laced throughout with mystic ironies.
