About the Book

SET SAIL aboard the ghost ship of ghost ships for high adventure, suspense, and horror. Since men first set out to cross the seven seas, innumerable ships and crews have never returned to home port. The fates of most will forever remain unknown. And the fate of one should be spoken of only in whispers. To have seen the world and its native peoples through the eyes of the first Western navigators must have been beyond description. Perhaps, this is why so many contemporary accounts consist of so few words. Set in one of the most dynamic periods in history, "Hollander" is inspired, in part, by voyages of Diaz, Da Gama, Columbus, Magellan, Drake, and Cooke. Over the years, the author has been blessed to sail a number of seas. Marveling at wonders both serene and spectral, he has savored the fellowship of good yachtsmen and yachtswomen, and by God's grace, survived the waters' furious wrath. Such experiences are drawn upon, as well. "Hollander" delivers the most enduring legend of the sea, to printed page. Immersed in all senses, this is a classic tale of adventure and intrigue, of breathtaking beauty and unbearable hardship, of tragic romance, horror, and hope. Set around the world with characters of extreme diversity, this is a story of devotion, conquest, and disaster. This is the account of the most doomed voyager of all time. Fair winds, and following seas ...
About the Author: Born on the eastern shore of the Pacific, the author has a lifelong love and respect for the sea. As well, great admiration for the bold captains and crews of old who dared set out on open ocean to discover what was beyond the horizon. One can only imagine the challenges they faced, the hardships endured, and how the world and its peoples might have appeared to their eyes. Truly, the impact they had has been earth shaping. And, many sacrificed their lives in the process. Fortunate to have spent an ample amount of time on the water, the author has participated in numerous sailing events in various parts of the world. He has also witnessed natural phenomena at sea. None were more fantastic than the primary inspiration for his debut novel. It occurred while leading a race, saling up the notorious strait between Denmark and Sweden, at night, in a gale. The author was standing helm when a southbound tall ship appeared off port bow. At first it looked to be afire. As she passed, author and crew saw a galleon, not burning, rather, aglow. And not by lights aloft, nor on deck. As quickly as she appeared, she vanished. At the end of the race, what was witnessed was shared with fellow sailors, who certainly must also have seen the specter. After a long silence, grizzled old Nordic salts around the bar nodded knowingly to one another. Finally, one whispered, "Ist de Vliegende Hollander."
