Stromt Luft mit maBiger Geschwindigkeit, so sind die in der Stromung auftretenden Druckunterschiede gegenuber dem Atmospharendruck der- artig gering, daB man, von Spezialfallen abgesehen, die resultierende Dichte-, Temperatur-und Volumenanderung des stromenden Mediums bei theoretischen Untersuchungen vernachlassigen darf. Die nicht zu schnell stromende Luft wird deshalb als inkompressibel, d. h. als unzu- sammendruckbar betrachtet. Dies ermoglicht die Gesetze der Aero- dynamik auf diejenigen der Hydrodynamik zuruckzufiihren. Da jedoch die Druckunterschiede etwa im Quadrat der Stromungsgeschwindigkeit wachsen, nehmen bei hoheren Geschwindigkeiten die durch Kompression und Expansion hervorgerufenen Dichteanderungen der strom end en Luft Werte an, die zu berucksichtigen sind, oder mit anderen Worten, die Luft ist als kompressibles Medium anzusehen. - Damit betreten wir das Gebiet der Gasdynamik. Dieses stellt eine Vereinigung der Stromungs- mechanik mit der Thermodynamik dar. 1m Aufgaben- resp. im For- schungsbereich dieses relativ noch jungen Zweiges der Aerodynamik liegt die Abklarung samtlicher Erscheinungen, die mit der Kompressi- bilitat der Luft zusammenhangen, sowie der daraus resultierenden Krafte- verhaltnisse an umstromten Korpern. Als Beispiele seien erwahnt das Bestimmen der GroBe von Auftrieb und Widerstand, der Lage der Luft- kraftresultierenden und das Abklaren der Stabilitatsverhaltnisse und der Steuerbarkeit u. a. m. von Flugkorpern im Schallgrenz-resp. Dberschall- bereich. II Die Schallgeschwindigkeit Wahrend sich in einem vollstandig unzusammendriickbaren Medium, das in der Praxis nicht existiert, eine Druckstorung auch auf groBe Ent- femung unmittelbar ausbreiten wiirde, wird dazu in kompressiblen Medien eine gewisse Zeit benotigt.
