Er ist fünf Jahre und neun Monate alt, hat sich bereits im Kindergarten stark gelangweilt. Nun rennt er in die Schule mit großen Erwartungen, was das Lernen betrifft. Er liest fließend Bücher und rechnet wie ein Drittklässler. Nach dem ersten Schultag fragt ihn die Mutter: "Wie war's? Was habt ihr gemacht?" Der Fünfjährige erzählt vom Ausmalen eines kopierten Blattes und vom Buchstaben O. Er habe die Lehrerin gefragt, was sie morgen machen würden. Sie antwortete, dass sie dann Wörter mit O kennenlernen würden, und sie hätte auch noch ein schönes Blatt zum Ausmalen. Da habe er zu der Lehrerin gesagt: "Ja schön, aber ich kündige dann" (Vock, 2004, S. 213). Man muss schon zweimal das Zitat durchlesen, um das glauben und/oder begreifen zu können. Aber das spiegelt die Realität wider. Eine Realität, die so Unwirklich ist, wie ein Naturforscher das städtische Leben erforscht. Es sind zwei verschiedene Welten, in denen auch die hochbegabten Kinder und Jugendlichen im wahrsten Sinne zu kämpfen haben. Doch warum brauchen hochbegabte Kinder Hilfe? Die Frage stellt sich Jutta Billhardt (Billhardt, 2013a). Solange Eltern wissen, dass ihr Kind hochbegabt ist und entsprechende Fördermaßnahmen getroffen sind, ist zunächst alles in Ordnung. Leider gibt es andere Fälle, die Jutta Billhardt allgemein beschreibt. Den Anstoß geben die Kinder und Jugendlichen selbst. Durch ihre andere Denkstrukturen, so weiter Jutta Billhardt, können sie sich bereits in Kleinkindzeiten nur im geeigneten Umfeld richtig entfalten. Hochbegabte Kinder müssen bereits im Kindergartenalter erfahren, dass ihre Fähigkeiten, die sie an den Tag legen, unangebracht sind.
