La ilusión de conseguir 35 hectáreas de tierra y comenzar una nueva vida les impulsaba a seguir adelante, pero este paso implicaba asentarse en una colonia nueva, en medio de la selva habitada por los guaraníes, los indígenas del lugar. Además del desafío de establecerse en una selva habitada por jaguares, víboras, arañas, mosquitos, entre otras alimañas y peligros de la región. ¿Volver a Europa? Imposible. Después de la Primera Guerra Mundial varios países europeos tenían una gran inflación, crisis económica y escasez de fuentes de trabajo. Descubra la odisea por la que pasaron estos inmigrantes durante el transcurso de su éxodo y en su nuevo asentamiento en medio del monte, envueltos en toda la magia y los peligros del lugar. Inmigrante argentina en los Estados Unidos e hija de descendientes de inmigrantes alemanes-brasileños en la Argentina, Valeria Scherf Vanstrien hace honor a los inmigrantes europeos por su coraje y valentía al dejar atrás su tierra natal y confiar en la Providencia para comenzar una nueva vida en tierras lejanas con su libro en versión castellana e inglés: "Historias de europeos en la tierra colorada" y "Stories of the Red Soil Immigrants". Desde niña, fue una gran amante y apasionada por la lectura de libros, los cuales fueron siempre un tesoro y una gran compañía para ella. Como docente en todo momento trató de transmitir este amor por la lectura hacia sus alumnos y hoy día también a sus hijos. Docente de vocación, esposa y madre, Valeria se abre paso como escritora independiente.
About the Author: Valeria Scherf Vanstrien nació en la localidad de Puerto Rico, Misiones, Argentina. Cursó sus estudios primarios y secundarios en el "Colegio San Alberto Magno". Asistió el Instituto Superior "Antonio Ruiz de Montoya", donde egresó con el título de Profesora de Inglés. Ejerció como profesora de inglés en la institución escolar "Posadas Colegio Moderno", en la Escuela Superior de Comercio No 2 "Independencia Nacional" y en el instituto terciario IPESMI de las ciudades de Jardín América y de Eldorado, en la provincia de Misiones, Argentina. En el 2006, fue seleccionada por la organización americana VIF Program (Visiting International Faculty) para ir a trabajar como docente de ESL (English as a Second Language-Inglés como Segunda Lengua) en una escuela pública en la ciudad de Charlotte, Carolina del Norte. En el 2009, egresó con un grado de Maestría en TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) en el Greensboro College, y en el 2011, egresó con otro grado de Maestría en Educación en el Montreat College, ambas instituciones educativas ubicadas en Carolina del Norte, Estados Unidos. En el 2014, publicó su primer libro Historias de europeos en la tierra colorada (versión en español) y Stories of the Red Soil Immigrants (versión en inglés). Actualmente, Valeria Scherf Vanstrien vive en los Estados Unidos, con su esposo e hijos.
