Esta novela comienza en el Franco Condado y termina en la Sevilla de la Carrera de Indias, entrelazando vidas y aventuras para perfilar un retablo social del enorme Imperio español de principios del siglo XVII. About the Author: Carmen Martínez Gimeno estudió Filología Hispánica en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y se especializó en literatura. Su vida laboral comenzó en Siglo XXI Editores de México, cuando lo dirigían Arnaldo Orfila y Martí Soler. En ese sello editorial se formó como escritora, editora y traductora. Desde entonces ha trabajado en varios países de dos continentes y diversas actividades, todas relacionadas con las letras. Además de editora, ha sido profesora de oratoria, de literatura, de redacción, de corrección de textos, de teoría de la traducción y de español como lengua extranjera. Ha traducido textos antiguos latinos y griegos, alguno del árabe clásico y muchos modernos del inglés, francés e italiano. Y nunca ha abandonado la escritura: ha publicado artículos y reseñas para revistas y periódicos, literatura infantil, novelas y cuentos. Asimismo, escribe asiduamente en su blog de letras Sin borrones (), donde comparte su experiencia editorial y literaria con lectores de todos los lugares del mundo. Su formación como editora y traductora, así como sus experiencias personales y el bagaje cultural que le ha proporcionado vivir y trabajar en dos continentes, se combinan en su actividad como escritora, enriqueciendo su lenguaje y ampliando el horizonte de sus intereses.
