Un estado de irreligión en el que la humanidad adoptaría y enseñaría públicamente una doctrina del ateísmo es imposible. El ateísmo es una negación, y las negaciones no pueden sostenerse, porque sólo tienen sentido cuando se las confronta con las cuestiones positivas que rechazan.
