Aunque la tipografía del griego clásico tiene casi 550 años de historia, ha sido poco estudiada. Este libro pretende llenar esta laguna, haciendo un repaso exhaustivo al devenir de los caracteres griegos desde que hicieron su aparición en un libro impreso en 1465, hasta la actualidad en que la tecnología digital ha sustituido casi completamente a la impresión tradicional con caracteres metálicos. En los 26 capítulos de que consta este estudio, se analizan detalladamente las tipografías griegas utilizadas por impresores tan famosos como Aldo Manucio, Froben, Estienne, Elzevir, Baskerville, Bodoni, Didot etc., sin olvidar los diseños de época moderna (Van Krimpen, Eric Gill, Hermann Zapf y Matthew Carter, entre otros), además de hacer un repaso al panorama digital actual, incluyendo las últimas fuentes digitales del tipo Unicode. El libro contiene 440 páginas y más de 100 ilustraciones. Sin duda, el más completo estudio disponible actualmente en cualquier idioma. About the Author: Juan-José Marcos estudió Filología Clásica en la Universidad de Salamanca (1981-1986) y ha ejercido labores docentes en Salamanca y Plasencia, donde actualmente sigue impartiendo clase de Latín y Griego. Interesado en los problemas de la escritura de los idiomas antiguos, ha diseñado diversas tipografías informáticas con ese fin, destacando entre ellas la llamada ALPHABETUM Unicode, una fuente que posee más de 6.000 caracteres y permite escribir la mayoría de las lenguas antiguas. También son creaciones suyas otras tipografías digitales que se denominan genéricamente "Fuentes paleográficas latinas" y "Fuentes paleográficas griegas", que recrean los tipos de escritura utilizados durante la Antigüedad y Edad Media en los manuscritos que nos han transmitido los textos de los autores clásicos latinos y griegos. En 2012 la editorial Dykinson publicó su libro titulado "Historia del alfabeto y de las letras del abecedario romano", en el que Juan José Marcos hace un repaso a los azarosos devenires del alfabeto desde sus ancestros fenicios, griegos, etruscos y romanos hasta nuestros días. Finalmente se analiza cada letra del abecedario romano, explicando su origen, su denominación y el motivo de su apariencia gráfica, al tiempo que se ofrecen curiosas anécdotas referentes a ellas.
