House calls and thoroughness will revive. This is about more than just health care. Our entire economy is at risk of collapse if we continue on our current course. About the Author: Dr. Jim Brook is a doctor who specializes in economics, or an economist who specializes in medicine. Take your pick. He changed careers and graduated from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2000, at the age of 37. He then completed the Duke University/SRAHEC Family Medicine Residency in 2003. He became board certified in family practice, and opened a solo practice. His patients pay him directly at the time of service, without insurance involvement. This keeps overhead down so that his average fee in 2015 was $55, including labs and medications, and some of those visits are even housecalls.
