Nach dem klassisch-transaktionskostentheoretischen Verständnis ist die Hierarchie die elementare und dominierende Koordinationsform für alle Ausprägungen von Organisationen - seien es strikt-hierarchische, zentralistische Organisationen in der idealtypischen Gestalt des Weberschen Bürokratiemodells oder hierarchisch "abgeschwächte" Ausprägungen in Gestalt von Hybriden oder "dezentralen Hierarchien". Frei nach dem Zitat von Weick untersucht das vorliegende Buch am Beispiel einer unkonventionellen Unternehmensberatung, ob neben der Hierarchie eine weitere, nicht-hierarchische Koordinationsform für Organisationen existiert und welche Rolle dabei die Kommunikation inne hat. So fragt die Autorin, ob in der Praxis eine Organisation ohne Chefs, CEOs und Vorgesetzte funktionieren kann und welche Strukturen und Koordinationsmechanismen an die Stelle der hierarchischen treten. Neben diesen kontextbezogenen Fragen erforscht die Autorin vor allem die Rolle der Kommunikation in einen solchen hierarchiefreien Kontext. Inwiefern unterscheidet sich die Kommunikation in einen hierarchischen von einen hierarchiefreien organisationalen Kontext? Wie wird geführt, entschieden und koordiniert und welche Rolle spielt dabei die Kommunikation? About the Author: Jasmin Leutelt, M.A., wurde 1983 in Sangerhausen geboren und studierte Public Relations und Wirtschaftskommunikation in Hannover und Berlin. Bereits während des Masterstudiums sammelte die Autorin zahlreiche praktische Erfahrungen im Bereich der Kommunikationsberatung und Organisationsentwicklung. Insbesondere in Ihrem Masterstudium entdeckte sie das Potenzial von Kommunikation in Führung, Innovation und Personalentwicklung. In einer ausgezeichneten Vorlesung über Führung und Kommunikation begann die Autorin klassische Führungskonzepte und Organisationsstrukturen zu hinterfragen, die mehrheitlich auf der Hierarchie als Grundpfeiler basierten. Mit besonderem Interesse und Fokus auf den Wissensarbeiter stellte sich die Autorin die Frage, ob auch in einem anderen organisationalen Rahmen -in anderen Strukturen und Rahmenbedingungen als den klassisch-hierarchischen -produktiv gearbeitet werden kann. Dabei kristallisierten sich zwei grundlegende Fragen heraus: Wie wird in diesen formal hierarchiefreien Organisationen geführt, koordiniert und entschieden? Und welche Rolle hat dabei die Kommunikation inne? Die Autorin wurde im Nachbarland, in den Niederlanden, fündig und analysierte eine unkonventionelle Unternehmensberatung namens Kessels & Smit, die formale Hierarchiefreiheit versprach.
