En die vraag is alleen goed te beantwoorden door de Tora te lezen in het licht van de oude rabbijnse traditie, die qua taal en gedachtegoed het meest met de Tora verwant is.

In dit boek bespreekt Peter van 't Riet het mensbeeld van de Tora voor een breed publiek. Daarbij komen verrassend moderne gezichtspunten naar voren. Dr. S.P. (Peter) van 't Riet studeerde wiskunde en psychologie en promoveerde op een onderwijspsychologisch onderwerp aan de Vrije Universiteit te Amsterdam. Hij was oprichter en voorzitter van de Stichting Judaica Zwolle en publiceerde diverse boeken over het joodse karakter van de Bijbel, speciaal van de evangeliën.
