He is an alumnus of New York University and the University of Maryland where he majored in political science and film. A collegiate student-athlete, Gordon played wing on Maryland's varsity rugby team. Gordon is an advocate of civil rights worldwide. He is also passionate about roots reggae, McLaren sports cars, hip-hop music, and most of all, chess. In chess, he is a 1950-ranked player, meaning that he's one level below that of a grandmaster.
