Selected illustration artwork of Jeffrey Ray Hayes has been collected into this 122-page full color softcover edition. "Heroes and Villains: The Cover Illustrations of Jeffrey Ray Hayes" is the first widely published book of his artwork spanning the 10-year period from 2004 - 2014. This volume contains examples of his cover artwork for books and audio productions, as well as promotional artwork for original web series content producers. A large selection of covers are represented, most notable are those included of his work for the "new pulp" publisher PRO SE PRESS and leading audio drama producers THE COLONIAL RADIO THEATRE ON THE AIR. Samplings include a diverse subject matter, including science fiction, fantasy, historical, and other fictional subject matter are contained within. From the foreword by publisher and author Tommy Handcock, "... that's not just because Jeff is talented. He takes that skill and applies to every shadow in the alleys he creates, adds it to each gun blast and explosion he weaves, and etches it deep into every smile, wrinkle, and line on every face he brings life to. About the Author: Illustrator Jeffrey Ray Hayes was born and raised in Austin, Texas where he continues to live and work today. He began his graphic design career working as a pen and ink illustrator for a role-playing and strategic gaming company and work several years as a commercial illustrator for a retail grocery chain. In 1989, he changed careers and has served as a law enforcement officer for over 25-years. During this time he has continued working as a part-time illustrator and graphic designer, focusing primarily on audio, television, and film entertainment promotions. He has provided a number of productions one-sheet promotional posters, pitch packages and pre-production concept art for television and film, and has worked as a set photographer and scenic artist on a number independent film productions, both in the United States and the United Kingdom. A fan of diverse subject matter, his core interest remains science fiction, fantasy, western, and not surprising - crime genres. Hayes is inspired by such classic illustrators as J.C. Leyendecker, James, Bama, Bruce Minney, Bob Peek, Drew Struzan, and comic book artists like Jim Steranko, John Byrne and Neil Adams. Most recently, Hayes has worked with Pro Se Press and Colonial Radio Theatre, providing hundreds of illustrations for audio drama and book covers, spanning a wide variety of classical and contemporary subjects.
