About the Book

Everyone has heard of the Spy Tapes that proved political interference in a court case, forcing the National Prosecuting Authority in April 2009, to drop all charges against presidential incumbent Jacob Zuma. Yet few know these tapes were initially posted on the Friends of JZ website, revealed here for the first time is the extraordinary story of writer Will Powers, the Hero of the Struggle who saved an innocent man from prison. The Friends of JZ website was also a convenient vehicle for Will Powers, to promote the political platform of future president Cyril Ramaphosa, who would establish a bastion against grasping communists coveting South Africa's wealth. More remarkable is these deeds were performed by a man with a broken heart, who had experienced greater pain than most men feel in ten lifetimes; even the hurt of President Zuma appears paltry when compared to that of Will Powers. Did Jacob Zuma have his heart broken in Holland by a wild Dutch girl, was he cruelly rejected by a crazed China lady publisher from Belfast, has Jacob Zuma ever worked under the racist Boer in a South African platinum mine? History records that Jacob Zuma is owed a great debt of gratitude, for negotiating peace in Zululand and helping to establish democracy in 1994; not so well known is that fourteen years later Will Powers did likewise for battered Zimbabwe. While the South African opposition leader Helen Zille harangued President Mbeki to invade Zimbabwe, Will Powers encouraged Thabo Mbeki to rather mediate a Zimbabwean unity government, with Morgan Tsvangirai installed as interim prime minister. The writing of Will Powers led to a negotiated Zimbabwean settlement, that kindled an economic revival in the beleaguered country, paving the way for the ultimate removal of Robert Mugabe. Yet in order to accomplish these spectacular achievements, Will Powers had to fight against his own blood father who refused to recognize his mixed race son, and had his hands dipped into some unsavory business schemes. Racist editor Pen Powers of the pearly white Partisan newspaper, had been bribed by sleazy mining magnate Harry Hiroshima, who'd signed lucrative platinum deals with Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe. Harry Hiroshima also nurtured ambitions to be South African president, so his rival Jacob Zuma must be mercilessly put to the sword, goaded on by opposition leader Helen Zille the press put the boot into the Zulu traditionalist. Fortunately for South Africa the writing of Will Powers put the skids under the anti-Zuma vendetta of Dirty Harry, then Will set about destroying the racist white cabal in politics, who dominated the opposition Democratic Alliance and despised Jacob Zuma because of his Zulu customs. So Will Powers produced a prescient political poster, to entice political stalwarts Patricia de Lille and Mmusi Maimane, into a unified African Democratic Alliance opposition. ADA would fight in parliament not in the courts as the DA were prone to do, which left authoritarian Helen Zille no option but to retire, and Mmusi Maimane became the new DA leader. How many men throughout history have achieved what Will Powers did, yet his warnings against racism in the platinum mines were ignored, resulting ultimately in the appalling Marikana Massacre. This is the way the press treated the writer who saved Jacob Zuma from prison, then made Cyril Ramaphosa the president, the only ANC leader who could avert South Africa falling into the hands of grasping communists. Yet have you ever seen Will Powers mentioned in any newspaper, perhaps in the future this will be righted, and Will Powers recognized as the Emile Zola of South Africa. A writer who unerringly guided his country, while saving the persecuted Jacob Zuma from injustice and prison, exactly like the famous French writer Emile Zola rescued the unfairly imprisoned Captain Alfred Dreyfus.
