Die Digitalisierung beeinflusst auch die Art der Reaktion des Menschen mit der Umwelt und die Art der Aufnahme von Informationen. Damit wird auch das Lernverhalten beeinflusst. In der Vergangenheit fanden Lern- und Arbeitsphasen überwiegend räumlich und zeitlich getrennt voneinander statt. Die Lerninhalte waren dabei in der Regel fest vorgegeben. Der Wissenserwerb war Voraussetzung für den Beginn und Wechsel in eine Arbeitsphase. In der heutigen Arbeitswelt sind Lern- und Arbeitsphasen nicht mehr strikt getrennt, sondern wechseln sich mehr und mehr ab und vermischen sich. Der Wissenserwerb muss demzufolge zunehmend kontinuierlicher und selbständiger erfolgen. Dabei steigt der Anteil des Lernens während der Arbeitsphase an. Der Zuwachs an digitalen Technologien beeinflusst das Lernverhalten. Unternehmen werden digitaler und beeinflussen die Anforderungen an die Art und Weise, wie Mitarbeiter in Zukunft Lernen. Als strategischer Wettbewerbsvorteil gilt das sogenannte Humankapital und stellt damit eine erfolgskritische, grundlegende und langfristig bedeutende Ressource eines Unternehmens dar. Die Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter (im folgenden Mitarbeiter) eines Unternehmens werden als das Fundament eines Unternehmens in einem zunehmend dynamischer, schneller und komplexer werdenden Geschäftsumfeld gekennzeichnet. Sie nehmen eine essentielle Rolle ein. Demzufolge gewinnt die Aus- und Weiterbildung von Mitarbeitern zunehmend an Bedeutung.
