About the Book

Henry and Sophie - A Steampunk Adventure

In this alternate 1880s world of steam powered airships and incredible inventions, Henry David works as a tailor and a tinkerer. His inventions do show unusual promise. Because of this potential he comes to the attention of the British Defense League. Since England is at war with Count Von Friedrich, the Defense League feel Henry's inventions may be of some use to them in the conflict. They send an agent to keep track of Henry's progress and make sure the enemy spies do not steal Henry's inventions.

The agent assigned to Henry is Sophie Thomas. Not only is it her job to see what Henry is up to; but she must also uncover the enemy spies. She befriends Henry and uses his inventions as bait to capture several enemy agents. Henry senses she has feelings for him, but it is hard to know if her friendship is genuine or is she playing an elaborate game with him.

He inadvertently creates a duplicate of Sophie; this damages their friendship. Having breakfast with her doppelganger strains her sanity. Will she ever forgive him for his bumbling? She is not the long-suffering girl he had hoped for. She, on the other hand, struggles with the choices of either keeping her perilous job or opening her heart up to him.

Henry creates an airship that makes tea and biscuits; but not only does it travel across the country in style, it travels back in time. They end up stranded in the past and must figure out how to return to the future without being killed by the enemy agent who went back in time with them.

Count Von Friedrich has a superweapon, Goliath, that decimates the English forces. Henry is encouraged to create something to help with the conflict. The enemy agents take an avid interest in him and kidnap him. Sophie must rescue him from their clutches. Later when he learns that she has been taken, he teams up with her doppelganger, Riana, and they go to her rescue. In the end, he must choose between liberating Sophie or destroying Count Von Friedrich's superweapon, thus ending the war.
