Dabei wird die gegenwärtige Welt durch Befindlichkeit erschlossen - wo und wie man sich befindet. Erfahren wird die Befindlichkeit nach Heidegger als Stimmung, beispielsweise als Furcht oder Langeweile. Durch diese vermittelt geht die Welt das Da-Sein "etwas an". Dabei werden Stimmungen vom Da-Sein vorgefunden, sie gehören zum Was-es-ist der Geworfenheit und sind nicht direkt willentlich steuerbar. Inspirationsquelle für Heideggers Entwurf der Befindlichkeit ist die Rhetorik des Aristoteles, welche Heidegger als erste phänomenologische Beschreibung des alltäglichen Da-Seins las. Im zweiten Buch führt Aristoteles die Zusammenhänge zwischen einer Situation und den dabei zu erwartenden Affekten aus, diese werden als vorreflexive Urteile über eine Situation interpretiert. Dabei ist die Auswahl der Furcht als Beispiel nicht zufällig: Als "Sprungbrett" zur zentralen Befindlichkeit der Angst gibt die Furcht die Richtung des Werkes vor. So zeigt Yfantis in seiner Analyse der für Sein und Zeit konstitutiven Vorlesungen, dass die augustinische Unterscheidung zwischen timor castus (Furcht vor Gott, bei Heidegger: Angst) und timor servilis (weltliche Furcht, bei Heidegger: Furcht) einer der Grundideen des Werkes ist. Dabei führt bei Heidegger, wie bei Augustinus, der timor castus zu einer Abwendung von der Welt und einer Zuwendung zum "eigentlichen" Leben. Diesem, auf timor basierenden Aufruf zum authentischen Da-Sein wird in dieser Arbeit das Begehren bei Sokrates gegenübergestellt. Zentral für die sokratische Lehre ist dabei der eros (Begehren), welches nach Sokrates auf die eudaimonia (Glückseligkeit) ausgerichtet und die wesentliche Trie
