Con frecuencia se ha presentado e interpretado la filosofía de Heidegger a la luz de la búsqueda de un parecer pro-nazi para explicar su participación política. Eso se ha producido habitualmente en detrimento de la naturaleza harto compleja de la relación de Heidegger con lo político. Este libro pretende enmendar ese desequilibrio y evaluar de manera crítica la relación de Heidegger con la política y su concepción de lo político.
El autor muestra cómo debemos cuestionar por qué frecuentemente se desplaza lo político en los escritos de Heidegger en lugar de interpretarlo en su pensamiento. Mediante la exploración de la ontología de Heidegger, donde lo político tiene lugar después del olvido del Ser y su deseo de pensar un lugar más originario y primordial que la política. Se considera aquí qué pueden decirnos algunos temas claves de Heidegger (su énfasis en los orígenes perdidos, sus exposiciones de la poesía de Hölderlin, sus escritos sobre la tecnología y la antigua polis griega) acerca de su relación con lo político.
Miguel de Beistegui también se adentra, en este libro, en los riesgos mismos implícitos en la negación de lo político de Heidegger y cómo eso abre la cuestión del riesgo del pensamiento mismo.
