About the Book

"Attempting to shine a light on specific issues prevalent in families all over the world, this book series is written to give voice to the "victim". The series will highlight how a history of abuse or neglect, which occurs early in a child's life, impacts their life-long spiritual, emotional, physical health, and growth. The writings will further illustrate how practically almost every choice made (throughout an affected child's life), is directly or indirectly related to being the victim of some form of abuse or neglect. While many children are lost through death or severe mental illness (death of spirit), because of being victimized, this story takes on a different perspective. Heaven's Mind focuses upon the ability of the inner spirit to rise and become victorious over perceived negative and disastrous circumstances".Heaven's Mind is based on the life of a girl named Heaven, who happens to have quite an imagination (a gift which is and will be illustrated generously throughout the series). The story begins with Heaven as the youngest and most inquisitive member of the Slotes family. In the 1st testament, the reader will follow Heaven, her family, and friends throughout the ages and stages of their experiences. The setting is late 1960's Detroit, Michigan, just before Heaven's birth and throughout her middle and high school years. Initially, quite religious in its undertones, Heaven's Mind transforms into tones of moderate sexual content (sometimes explicit). Relational and family dysfunction, common to many households are amplified, personified, and then demonized. Incestuous, molestation and consensual sex scenes are expressed straightforwardly, as well as, the revelation of many startling family secrets which are openly discussed. In the 2nd testament, the reader is granted access to the innermost thoughts of Heaven's mind as she matures into womanhood. It is the summer of 1990 and Heaven has just finished her junior year of college at The Art Institute of Chicago. She is on her way to visit with her favorite Aunt Liz. Unlike the 1st testament, the 2nd testament is focused primarily on the life experiences of Heaven as she evolves throughout each transforming stage of life. Suffering through pain and loss, emptiness and confusion; she unconsciously consoles herself with sex, secrets, and scandal. The 3rd testament of Heaven's Mind takes us further inside the mind of Heaven and discovers how she transforms herself to become the infamous Heaven Phoenix. Having endured so much pain, loss, and heartbreak, Heaven proves that she has what it takes to rise above her circumstances to go from victim to victorious. The reader will most definitely catch a glimpse of themselves or those they know in the characters and situations of this book. Nearly too graphic to write about, the book sheds light on many social, religious, cultural, and sexual enigmas plaguing many families in the world today. As the story concludes, the circumstances leading up to the final setting are left up to the reader to imagine what has happened, to whom it has happened, and what will be revealed in the 2nd and 3rd testaments.
