About the Book

"Heart of the Unsung" is a Native American survival/adventure/thriller. Cut off from anything south of the Arctic Circle from an asteroid collision, this continuing story from "Song of the Unsung" pits man against man and man against nature in one of the most unforgiving environments on the planet. The continued battle to survive with little except ingenuity and tried and true methods of the Inupiat Eskimos is tested against an increasingly hard to attain food supply and an insane Air Base commander who wants the oil of Prudhoe Bay for military purposes. He is willing to kill to get it. The two main characters, an Eskimo village leader and a security chief from Prudhoe Bay, have long-since learned that there is no such thing as letting their guards down. If it isn't the elements, it's the bears. If not the bears, it's the mentally unstable Base commander. If not him, it's the threat of the toxic asteroid debris cloud migrating north. Throughout the story, allies are acquired from aspects of the military and play important roles in the defense of the North Slope of Alaska. Even then, the burgeoning threat of a nuclear strike from a U.S. Air Base becomes a matter that must be dealt with on the Base commander's home turf, hundreds of miles away in Greenland. What the protagonists want is simple: to start a new life under Constitutional principles in what remains of America -- if the debris cloud stays clear and a nuclear catastrophe is averted. What choice is left but to live life one day at a time and handle the lethal challenges as they arise? It won't be easy, but the Inupiat way will be the key.
About the Author: Biography for Gary Eddings I have been retired from a thirty year career with the fire service since 2005. I retired with the rank of Division Chief in charge of Emergency Medical Services. I was a paramedic for sixteen of those years before entering into administrative duties. These experiences help tremendously in my writing. Since retirement I have completed four fiction novels; all involving Native Americans, and all involving characters challenged by situations they are thrust into, whether the environment or antagonists who want what they have. Two of the books, Song of the Unsung and Buffalo Hump were published in 2012. A third, Heart of the Unsung, sequel to Song of the Unsung, is available now. Two other Works In Progress are being compiled for releases in the near future. I am a member of the Pacific Northwest Writers Association and a published author with Champagne Book Group from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. My goal is to continue improving my craft and developing stories that are as interesting to the reader as they are to the writer. My other major goal is to spoil my Grandson, Waylon, rotten. I can't wait to see him catch his first fish and discover the wonders of the world! For more information visit my website at http: //www.garyeddings.wordpress.com and feel free to interact.
