Das Verhältnis zwischen Führungskraft und Mitarbeiter, die Motivation dieser und die optimale Ausnutzung von Human Resources stehen im Zentrum zahlreicher Untersuchungen von Unternehmen weltweit. Die Umsetzung dieser Faktoren wird in den Unternehmen durch Führungsmodelle gesteuert. Am weitesten verbreitet sind hier das Harzburger Modell (HM) und das Modell des Management by Objectives (MbO). In dieser Arbeit soll im Schwerpunkt untersucht werden, welches dieser Modelle sich als am geeignetsten für die Anwendung auf den unteren Ebenen eines Unternehmens darstellt. Da ein Großteil der verfügbaren Literatur den Fokus auf den Einsatz der Führungsmodelle in der gesamten Unternehmensstruktur legt, soll diese Arbeit einen Zugang in die Thematik ermöglichen, der besonders praxisorientiert ist. Aus diesem Grund wird die Diskussion der jeweiligen Theorieebene der unterschiedlichen Modelle nur am Rande erfolgen. Betont wird dieser Zugang durch die persönlichen Erfahrungen des Autors als Mitarbeiter und Führungskraft innerhalb eines Filialbetriebes. Auf der genannten Unternehmensebene erweist sich der Einsatz des Management by Objectives als zunehmend problematisch, da hier besondere Faktoren, insbesondere Zeit und Ausbildungstand der Mitarbeiter, grundlegend anders sind, als auf anderen Führungsebenen. Trotz dieser Probleme wird MbO in der Fachliteratur und der unternehmerischen Praxis zunehmend bevorzugt verwendet, eine Tatsache die von Seiten des Autors kritisch gesehen wird.
