About the Book

A page-turning follow-up to the highly-rated debut thriller, "Family Business." In the tradition of Robert B. Parker's "Spenser" novels, Dare County Sheriff Marty Tate teams up with fellow law enforcement officers in Virginia in order to locate and apprehend a dangerous and highly intelligent serial killer in this new installment of Colin Beckett's Outer Banks Crime Mystery series. What was an open missing person's case becomes a homicide investigation when a body is discovered in Virginia's Shenandoah National Park. One month later, a respected psychiatrist is killed aboard his yacht on the waters of Roanoke Island. Based upon the offender's signature, the medical examiner is able to conclude that the same killer was responsible for both homicides. Marty Tate and Deputy Kenny Smith start working the Outer Banks investigation and Lt. Jared McClure and Officer Fred Drury, both with the Virginia State Police, pursue the Virginia case in a coordinated effort to solve both crimes. With clever stealth and skill, the killer is able to elude the investigators in part due to his scrupulous planning, as well as his highly advanced knowledge and experience in cyber-crimes. By exploiting vulnerabilities in modern smartphones, the internet and social media, his prey and their surviving loved ones are caught completely unaware of his murderous behavior and motives. Sheriff Tate and his colleagues have no time to lose if they are going to figure out who and where the mysterious killer is as he plays his dangerous game of cat and mouse.
About the Author: Colin Beckett has been a frequent visitor to the Outer Banks since 1985. Earlier in his life, the Outer Banks inspired him to write a poem entitled "Currituck Sounds," that was published in "The American Poetry Anthology, Volume IX, Number 4" by the American Poetry Association. He earned a Master of Arts degree in American History at Cleveland State University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. He is a member of the Midwest Chapter of Mystery Writers of America, as well as a member of the Alliance of Independent Authors. He lives with his wife in Northeast Ohio where he is currently at work on his next mystery.
