Im Rahmen der Untersuchung wurden Unternehmen unterschiedlicher Größe und Branche zum Thema "Handlungsansätze für ein BGM aus Sicht des Unternehmens" befragt. Laut einer Studie von Booz & Company (2011) stehen "deutsche Unternehmen mit ihren Personalstrategien derzeit vor drei besorgniserregenden Entwicklungen: der Überalterung ihrer Belegschaft durch den Bevölkerungswandel, dem steigenden Wettbewerb um Arbeitskräfte und einem absehbaren Anstieg der Krankheitskosten pro Arbeitnehmer." Dabei nannten die Befragten den demografischen Wandel als auschlaggebenden Grund für die wachsende Relevanz betrieblicher Vorsorge. Die Statistiken der Krankenkassen machen zudem deutlich, dass Prävention und Förderung der psychischen Gesundheit einen großen Stellenwert für Unternehmen einnehmen und ein verstärktes Engagement in diesem Bereich nötig ist. Rund 21 % der Arbeitsunfähigkeitstage (AU-Tage) je 100 Versicherte entfallen auf Erkrankungen des Muskel-Skelett-Systems und bildeten damit den Hauptgrund für AU-Tage im Jahr 2020. Im Vergleich hierzu sind 17 % des Arbeitsunfähigkeitsvolumens auf psychische Erkrankungen zurückzuführen. Diese haben in den letzten Jahren stark an Bedeutung gewonnen. So zeigt eine Analyse der Daten einen neuen Höchststand mit 260 Fehltagen insgesamt, sodass sich hier im Vergleich zum Vorjahr ein Anstieg von 24 Tagen pro 100 Versichertenjahre verzeichnen lässt. An dritter Stelle sind die Atemwegserkrankungen mit einem Anteil von 14,5 % am Krankenstand gelistet, wobei die Fehltage in diesem Bereich gegenüber 2019 um 3,6 % gesunken sind (Marschall et al., 2
