Written by George Ksander, it's all about this condominium resort hotel's 'ohana nui, ' or extended family. And in the Hawaiian tradition, this extended family encompasses everyone connected to this very special place, from the staff and owners to the neighbors to the guests-past, present, and future.
Responding to the desire of the community to capture and share the experiences that make the Hanalei Colony Resort so important to them, Ksander combines local legends, historical records, journalistic accounts, music, books, film, personal experiences, and his own lovely impressionistic vignettes to explore the question, why is this place so special?
With a focus on "talking story," Hanalei Colony Resort: A Special Place offers a unique narrative about a one-of-a-kind location-on the north shore of Kauai-that is not only spectacular in its natural geography, but also has a magical aura imbued by its history, culture, and people. Whether you are already under its spell or you would like to get an intimate, insider's look at the many aspects that make this place what it is, this book is sure to move you with the "aloha spirit."
About the Author: George Ksander, along with his wife, Molly, owns an apartment at Hanalei Colony Resort, and he has served on the resort's board of directors. With a longtime interest in the history and culture of Hawaii, writing Hanalei Colony Resort: A Special Place was truly a labor of love, as he conducted numerous interviews and exhaustive research in addition to talking story with the people who love the resort and wanted their impressions and experiences of the place recorded for posterity.
Ksander has also traveled throughout the Hawaiian Islands, and when he manages to tear himself away from Hawaii, he lives in San Francisco.
