¡HABLEMOS ESPAÑOL! is a two-semester textbook designed to be used by the beginner, first
year Spanish student. Each chapter focuses on a Spanish speaking country and the vocabulary,
readings and activities introduce the student to the people, places, culture and history of that
country. Three units are included in each chapter: Estructuras, Vocabulario para la
comunicación and Cultura.
Estructuras
Estructuras presents grammatical concepts. Each chapter starts with a comic strip that
introduces the new grammatical concepts, which are followed by practice exercises, readings
and links that complement and reinforce the material. The exercises and readings are centered
on the country and the student learns Spanish while learning about the country.
Vocabulario
Each chapter is organized around a new communication vocabulary which corresponds with the
readings and all activities in the chapter. The new vocabulary is summarized at the end of the
chapter and is usually followed by practice exercises that require more input from the students
as they progress.
Cultura
Is an important element in ¡HABLEMOS ESPAÑOL! We strongly believe that language is culture
and the two are inseparable. Students cannot learn and enjoy a language if it is separated from
the people that speak it. Culture permeates the textbook and is present in every aspect of the
book. Songs, dance, film, food as well as cultural events, and places of interest will amaze and
enchant the student.
We hope that the educator can use this textbook as a guide that will not limit her or him to its
content but be a source of ideas and activities for the class. The textbook ¡HABLEMOS
ESPAÑOL! is complemented by the workbook ¡ESCRIBAMOS ESPAÑOL! which provides
additional practice.
