En Guillermo Facio Hebequer. Entre el campo artístico y la cultura de izquierdas, Magalí Devés recorre pormenorizadamente los derroteros de un artista cuya trayectoria y obra gráfica han sido -tanto por la historiografía, como por la memoria militante- encuadradas (permítanme el juego de palabras) en el campo de la izquierda revolucionaria y del antifascismo. Las razones que explican la eficacia de dicha operación son claramente atendibles y la dinámica que la hizo verosímil podría justificarse a la luz de varias cuestiones y sucesos que se exponen en este libro. No obstante, Facio Hebequer actuó y fue visto de muy múltiples maneras que no podrían ser "normalizadas" bajo una única canonización restaurada periódicamente desde su muerte (ella misma, objeto de disputa de sentidos entre sus viejos amigos y las diversas dirigencias partidarias). Un "alma de modistilla", un "pintor gorkiano", un "sectario", un "artista del pueblo", etcétera. Todas estas definiciones le cupieron a Facio Hebequer en diversos momentos de su vida y a partir de la mirada de diferentes personas. En vez de iluminar y recortarse sobre una sola de ellas, Magalí ha sabido inteligentemente -a través de un arduo y notable trabajo de recuperación de fuentes y de agudeza analítica- restituir las condiciones y tensiones del ámbito cultural y político de izquierda donde al artista le fue dado producir, para explicarlas en su contexto, pero sobre todo -y es aquí donde el libro excede en mucho las fronteras limitantes de la biografía tradicional- para situar en perspectiva las complejidades y recovecos del campo artístico en relación con la práctica política en la Buenos Aires de entreguerras.

Magalí Andrea Devés es Doctora en Historia por la Universidad de Buenos Aires y Magíster en Historia del arte argentino y latinoamericano por el Instituto de Altos Estudios Sociales de la Universidad Nacional de San Martín. Se desempeña como docente de la cátedra de Historia Contemporánea de la carrera de Historia de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la Universidad de Buenos Aires y ha recibido becas posdoctorales del Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) y de la Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA). Ha colaborado en diversas publicaciones académicas en su área de estudio.
