Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Gruppenorientierte Arbeitsformen wurden bereits Ende der 80er Jahre in vielen Unternehmen der Automobilbranche eingeführt. Am 11. Juli diesen Jahres einigten sich auch der Bundesarbeitgeberverband Chemie (BAVC) und die IG Chemie-Papier-Keramik über Grundsätze zur Gruppenarbeit in der Chemie-Industrie. Beide Seiten waren sich darüber einig, daß Gruppenarbeit sowohl für das Unternehmen als auch für die Mitarbeiter eine Reihe von Vorteilen mit sich bringt. So wurde erklärt, daß "durch Gruppenarbeit die Produktivität, die Innovations- und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der Unternehmen verbessert werden" kann und sich für den Mitarbeitern eine Chance zur "Mitgestaltung und Humanisierung der Arbeitsumwelt" bietet. Voraussetzung ist jedoch ein radikales Umdenken seitens des Managements und auch der Mitarbeiter. Was den Erfolg von Gruppenarbeit in deutschen Unternehmen noch beeinträchtigt, ist vor allem die Mentalität deutscher Arbeitnehmer. Ihnen fehlt die lebenslange Erziehung zum Gruppendenken wie die Japaner sie in ihrer Kultur erfahren. Dies führt dazu, daß man versucht auch in der Gruppe Individualist zu bleiben, wodurch die Effektivität des Teamkonzepts beeinträchtigt wird. Zweite Schwachstelle einer erfolgreichen Einführung von Gruppenarbeit in deutschen Unternehmen ist die Haltung des Managements. Viele Führungskräfte müssen erst noch lernen, alte Machtpositionen aufzugeben und Vertrauen in die Fähigkeiten der Mitarbeiter zu entwickeln. Erst dann ist die Basis für eine erfolgreiche Gruppenarbeit gelegt.
