Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1,7, Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald (Philologisches Institut), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die wissenschaftliche Untersuchung des Grotesken in der speziellen Anwendung auf einen Roman - und in diesem Fall auf Elias Canettis "Die Blendung" - lässt bereits zu Beginn zwei wesentliche Probleme erkennen: Zum einen existiert in der Literaturwissenschaft derzeit noch keine allgemeingültige Definition des Grotesken, sodass die Quellenlage umfassend, aber keineswegs eindeutig ist. Zum anderen ist die Beschäftigung mit Canettis Werken ein relativ junges Terrain und kann trotz der wachsenden Zahl an Aufsätzen und Besprechungen nicht als einheitlich angesehen werden. Eine Untersuchung der grotesken Mittel in der 'Blendung' setzt demnach eine klare Struktur der theoretischen und praktischen Analyse und Definitionsgebung voraus. Aus diesem Grund wird diese Arbeit zu Beginn die Forschungslage um den Begriff des Grotesken vorstellen, um schließlich eine für die Untersuchung gültige Definition zu entwickeln. Unterstützt wird dies durch eine dreiteilige Gliederung: Im Kapitel 2.1 wird der Aspekt der Lesererwartung und Enttäuschung näher beleuchtet, in 2.2 das Verhältnis zwischen Komik und Grauen geklärt und im Abschnitt 2.3 werden die Begriffe 'Normalität', 'Wahnsinn' und 'das Hässliche' definiert. An dieser theoretischen Grundlage orientiert sich schließlich im Kapitel 3 die Untersuchung des Grotesken speziell am Werk "Die Blendung". Auch hier erfolgt eine Einteilung in drei Abschnitte. Zu Beginn werden die grotesken Elemente an den Figuren des Romans aufgezeigt, wobei der Schwerpunkt auf der Hauptfigur Peter Kien und den Nebenfiguren Therese Krumbholz, Benedikt Pfaff, Siegfried Fischerle und Georg Kien liegt. Anschließend werden im Kapitel 3.2 die Figurenhandlung und die Romanhandlung analysiert, um schließlich in ihrem Zusammenwirken betrachtet werden zu können. Den Abschlus
