Car, ce qui nous fascine de cette ville unique n'est pas seulement sa richesse monumentale mais son incroyable passé, la rencontre entre maure et chrétien, gitan et juif, sierra et plaine, neige et soleil, dans ce balcon verdoyant de l'Europe qui regarde vers les côtes arides de l'Afrique.Lawrence Lorenzo Bohme, écrivain, polyglotte, dessinateur, voyageur curieux et historien sans papiers par excellence, a distillé, en descriptions lumineuses, les fruits de cinquante ans de flâneries par les palais et les coins perdus de sa terre adoptive, Grenade. Richement illustré avec les dessins à la plume de Lorenzo, ce livre fut écrit en 2000 en langue anglaise sous le titre Granada, City of My Dreams et par la suite traduit en français et espagnol par l'auteur lui-même. Lorenzo le presenta aux lecteurs français dans l'émission télévisée Des Racines et des Ailes en 2002.
About the Author: Né à Londres en 1942 "sous les missiles d'Hitler", d'un père réfugié allemand et d'une très jeune mère anglaise, Lawrence Bohme grandit à Vancouver et à l'âge de 14 ans partit avec sa maman, qui aspirait à devenir peintre abstraite, au Mexique où il apprit sa première langue étrangère. Après des années de vagabonder par les Antilles et le Greenwich Village, il commença ses études universitaires à Madrid en pleine époque franquiste. Amoureux de l'Espagne mais insatisfait de l'ambiance étouffante du monde académique, il quitta tout pour recommencer à la Sorbonne en 1961... Suivirent des années de "rouler ma bosse" par l'Italie et ensuite le Brésil où il réalisa son rêve de revivre le film "Orfée Noir" dans una favela qui surplombait, d'un côté Copacabana et de l'autre Ipanema. Vivant d'abord de cours d'anglais et par la suite de la fabrication artisanale de sandales et sacs en cuire en association avec un immigrant japonais, qui devint son grand ami... Avec son nouveau métier, Lawrence repartit vers l'Haiti oì il passa deux ans inoubliables sous le régime de "Baby Doc" et apprit parler créole. Après des années antillaises - Cartagena de Indias et l'ile de San Andrés, Grand Cayman, Saint Martin et Saint Barth, il revint en France où, sur le tard, il apprit la profession de traducteur et travailla pour UNESCO. En 2002 Lawrence, marié et père d'un garçon appelé Auguste, s'installa dans la terre de sa jeunesse, Grenade, et se mit à écrire de la ville, son palais maure et aussi de sa vie d'aventures...
