About the Book

G.W. Lister the author of The Warden's Words book review column for the International Game Warden magazine said, "Green Dawg is a wonderful first book ... it is definitely a joy to read ... Green Dawg is not your typical game warden novel where everything gets wrapped up in a neat little package and the crime is solved. This novel is more akin to the actual day-to-day goings on of a real life game warden, where your fingers are in so many pies that is seems like you'll never get on track ... Thankfully, Luxford is already putting the finishing touches on a sequel Rivva Dawg. I can hardly wait." Green Dawg is a quirky character-driven adventure with action, humor and romance. It is a story about cops, but they are not typical police officers. They are the specialized police officers that patrol the woods and waters that go by the title of game wardens or conservation police officers. Officer Jake Dupree has had a rough couple of years. After working in the demanding northern Virginia area as a police officer and surviving a grueling shooting in the north woods of the Adirondack Mountains Jake decides life is too short to spend it in the rat race of Fairfield County. Having spent his summers in the Adirondack's as a kid, and being an avid outdoorsman he has always been drawn to the woods and wilds. He applies and is hired to become a Virginia State Game Warden and hopefully a quieter slower paced type of work. Jake is thrown into a new world on many levels. The work area he is assigned to is full of very different characters one of which is his old school, grumpy, demanding field training officer Harold Zimmerman. Not only must he re-adjust to a new way of policing, he will have to figure out how to get along with a work group of slightly warped individuals. It turns out it isn't the quiet work he had expected. To add to his challenges one of his best friend Billy Baker's girlfriends introduces Jake to a beautiful but mysterious woman Lydia Lightfoot.. He falls head over heels for her but as time passes their courtship becomes increasingly bizarre. Adding to the fray is a serial killer that decides the Virginia State boat landings, especially those along the James River, are a great place to slaughter women on. Even the stray cat he takes in turns out to have issues. It is a rollercoaster ride that will bring Jake to the brink of his own sanity and where he will learn that friends and loyalty are what carry the day.
About the Author: Brad Luxford has been in law enforcement for over twenty-five years. He served as a Virginia State Game Warden for more than five of those years and currently works as a deputy for a county sheriff's department in central Virginia. He attended the State of Virginia's Forensic Science Academy and has processed serious crime and accident scenes and taught forensics at police academies for many years. He holds a master's degree in criminal justice with a specialization in forensic science. Green Dawg is his first book, which he has followed up with a sequel, Rivah Dawg, in what is becoming the Jake Dupree Series.
