About the Book

If you ask people what their biggest budget busters are, many often will say their food spending is an issue. In fact, many Americans literally eat through their income, knowingly spending more than they should on dining out. These wonderful frugal recipes were carefully selected for the "poor man" or the budget conscious cook. I know that with your busy schedule, it can be impossible to make it to the grocery store. All of these recipes are here because we believe that they can be made out of whatever is in your pantry, cabinets, or freezer. Show you family that meals on a budget can be delicious with these fine frugal recipes.Fortunately, there are a ton of tasty, inexpensive meals you can make at home with very few ingredients and not much time. I will share with you some of the best recipes in this book, along with a few more ideas to help you and your family eat well for next to nothing. Most recipes are great for Vegetarians and Vegans. Swapping a lunch or dinner out with one of these cheap meals just once or twice per week is an easy way to lower your food expenses.A note on prices: As inexpensive as these meals are, in reality, they're probably even more inexpensive than what you see here. I averaged prices I found wherever possible which are likely higher than what you'll pay at your local grocery store; they're certainly higher than if you buy generic, buy non-perishables in bulk, grow produce in your garden, or use your grocery store flyer to plan your meals. Poor people often work from morning to night piecing-meals together to keep afloat. Keep in mind each serving should be made for around a dollar or less.Families were taught to creatively stretch out their food budgets and toast, potatoes and flour seem to be the popular, inexpensive ingredients. Expensive meat was typically eaten only once a week. Soups are tasty and can be very inexpensive to make. I eat a lot of split pea and lentil veggie soup. Also, bean chili has a ton of protein and although most chilies are very spicy you can spice it to taste. Try to find a shop that sells vegetables inexpensively than the grocery store. The vegetables will probably be fresher too. Also, bananas and oatmeal is a fantastic, inexpensive, filling and healthy breakfast. Eggs are a fantastic inexpensive source of protein and nutrients. These wonderful frugal recipes were carefully selected for the "poor man" or the budget conscious cook (Great for Vegetarians and Vegans just replace meat and cheese). I know that with your busy schedule, it can be impossible to make it to the grocery store. All of these recipes are here because we believe that they can be made out of whatever is in your pantry, cabinets, or freezer. Show your family that meals on a budget can be delicious with these fine frugal recipes.
