The road to success is certainly not an easy ride. Many successful people in the world today did not get to where they are, neither did they attain their present status, on a soft platter. A good number of the people we admire today arrived at the positions they are by dint of hard work, determination, commitment, focus and a passionate desire to break the norm to achieve greatness in spite of the odds, challenges and difficulties before them.Many of today's sports superstars (Footballers) were not born with the proverbial silver spoon and did not have the luxury of coming from comfortable and privileged homes. They had to work extra hard to get to where they are today. Some even tilled the soil until their hands were blistered, while some others played on the streets with their peers barefoot. In the same vein, there are those that labored hard and did menial jobs on their way to finding success. A good number of today's football superstars started out on the streets with no form of playing kit at their disposal .Some of them came from very poor homes and they had to engage in menial jobs to be able to afford playing boots and pants for themselves as well as to raise money to enroll in local football academies to improve and sharpen their skills. Having made up their minds from a very early stage in life to play football as a career, these individuals pursued their dreams with a most uncommon passion and determination, not minding the odds and obstacles that lay in wait as they journeyed on. Some of these superstars did not even have support when they started out as their parents and families forbade them from going out to play the game with other youngsters in the community where they grew up. Many have sad and bitter tales to tell of how they were beaten and punished by older family members for daring to pursue their passion from their growing up days. Most times, the reasons given for these opposition and rejection from family members include among others that they want for them to get an education and pursue other careers instead of playing football in particular or doing sports in general. This is even more so in a family where the tradition is to pursue careers that tended towards blue collar professions or where their other siblings have acquired some other skills in technical fields. However, these youngsters stubbornly stood their grounds and stuck to their dreams of making a successful career out of playing football, no matter what. It is important to note that they all faced one form of discriminatory and discouraging challenges or the other in their quest to realizing their ambition of becoming great footballers. They even at some point deprived themselves of the childhood pleasures that their peers usually engaged in and rather spent most of their growing up days playing rag-tag football on the streets and training with fellow amateur players on local playing grounds. They also spent long hours in training developing their skills because, they were determined from the very beginning to excel and they did excel indeed.This book is aimed primarily at encouraging and inspiring young people not to give up on their dreams. As a matter of fact, it is a beautiful thing to dream and to be ambitious. It is however a terrible thing to sleep on one's dreams and not take practical and committed steps at ensuring that such dreams materialize into reality. It is also important to let young people know that pursuing one's dreams with determination, unwavering passion and sincerity of purpose are basic ingredients at achieving set goals.
