Einführung Folgende Hausarbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Grammatik-Übersetzungsmethode im modernen Fremdsprachenunterricht. Zunächst wird hierbei mit einer Definition des Begriffs der Methode begonnen, verbunden mit dem Versuch einer allgemeinen begrifflichen Eingrenzung. Daraufhin werden die Erkenntnisse auf den Fremdsprachenunterricht bezogen und kurz daraus resultierende Konsequenzen für Lehrenden und Lernenden gleichermaßen zu formulieren versucht. Im zweiten Teil geht es um einen geschichtlichen Überblick zu methodischen Konzepten im Fremdsprachenunterricht mit dem Schwerpunkt der Grammatik-Übersetzungsmethode im frühen Fremdsprachenunterricht, auch in vorinstitutioneller Zeit voranschreitend bis zum Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts und den ersten reformpädagogischen Bestrebungen wie unter Wilhelm Vietor, welche erstmals Alternativen zur bis dato gängigen Unterrichtspraxis im Fremdsprachenunterricht forderten und anboten. Im nächsten Schritt folgen nun eine Darlegung der allgemeinen Lernziele der Methode und deren Bedeutung für den Fremdsprachenunterricht, wobei hierbei am Anfang von einem Zitat Hans Heinrich Sterns ausgegangen wird. Der direkt darauf folgende Schritt soll nun die daraus resultierenden Konsequenzen zu verdeutlichen versuchen, was mit Hilfe eines exemplarischen Unterrichtsschemas illustriert wird. Danach folgen mögliche Übungs- beziehungsweise Aufgabenformen der Grammatik-Übersetzungsmethode im Unterricht sowie das Verhältnis des Lehrenden zum Lernenden in dieser Form des Unterrichts, welches sich ergibt. Zum Abschluss des Hauptteils wird das Augenmerk nun auf ein Beispiel eines Buchs für den Englischunterricht an Gymnasien und höheren Mädchenschulen aus dem Jahre 19
