About the Book

Doctor Samuel Governey was born in 1890 to the homosexual Earl of Cheshire and his oblivious wife, a rich American heiress. As a victim of his parents' indiscretions and the shocking discovery of a scandalous family incident, Samuel increasingly inherits the sly, devious disposition of his charismatic father while on a quest to establish his own identity. Caught up in remarkable events of his era such as the Great War and Mafia-ruled Prohibition, Samuel at long last makes his mark in in Grosse Pointe, Michigan as the charming proprietor of a multipurpose funeral home. That is, until the untimely death of his morphine-dependent servant. As Samuel attempts to find a replacement, a young girl appears unannounced on his doorstep. Will she be the answer to Samuel's dilemma (and perhaps his heart) as he eventually tries to impress her with his riches? Will he be able to lure her in with his collection of vintage motor cars and a visit to one of his elaborate speakeasies? Or will the bizarre mementos from his African expeditions scare her away? While more surprises, both planned and unplanned are revealed, discover who actually prevails in the end. Or is there a victor after all?
About the Author: Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan during the 1950's, Constance Eve can always remember sitting at the kitchen table with her nose to a book. Having been taught, however, that a college education was useless for girls of her ethnic background, she was instead persuaded to attend secretarial school. After her clerical career took a nosedive, Constance met and fell in love with the man she has been married to for the past 39 years. Roused by her husband's encouragement, Constance began to explore many avenues in her life. Although she never graduated from a university, she did pursue a liberal arts education at Macomb Community College while raising four children, maintaining a 4.0 average for several years. Her favorite subject was English, whereupon she received an A+ in creative writing. Encouraged by these achievements, she began studying the art of writing with her piano teacher, Yuri Dia Konov, who was also an accomplished author. Soon, she was composing her own novel and in 2006 was awarded first prize by the National League of American Pen Women for an original short story. Other endeavors include being a member of Grosse Pointe Theatre where she has appeared in a half dozen musicals, was awarded a "Clarence" and also served on its board of directors. Possessing an inherent love for her country, she ran for office under the Libertarian ticket during the 1998 and 2000 elections. In spite of these undertakings, however, Constance's pride and joy is her endearing family which, after the addition of three wonderful sons-in-law, a beautiful daughter-in-law and eight delightful grandchildren, she still looks forward to an ever-flourishing family tree. The best writing advice she ever received? NO GUTS, NO STORY!
