About the Book

The Gospel of Thomas claims to be a collection of sayings by Jesus recorded by Thomas Didymos. This early Christian text provides insight into the ancient oral traditions, and continues to inspire people today. This collection of sayings attributed to Jesus is one of fifty-two writings of the Nag Hammadi library discovered near Egypt, in December 1945. The first English translation was published in 1959. Now there are numerous English translations. Over a dozen of them were consulted to create this new haiku version. On Dr. David R. Hawkins' exponential scale of consciousness ranging from 1 to 1000, where 200 is the level of integrity, and 500 is the level of love, The Gospel of Thomas is calibrated to be at 660, making it one of those rare books that raises the consciousness of the reader. This book presents the entire high calibrating text of The Gospel of Thomas in fresh haiku poetry that is a pleasure to contemplate-whether or not the reader has a background in early Christian writings. For more options, please visit: www.uharriet.com
About the Author: Three authors are acknowledged for this book of Jesus' sayings, recorded by Saint Thomas, and put into haiku verse by Rev. Thomas E. Uharriet. Jesus the Christ, also known as Jesus of Nazareth, identifies himself in this text as the light, the All, and the one living from the unchanging One. The Gospel of Thomas begins with the words, "These are the secret sayings that the living Jesus spoke and Didymus Judas Thomas recorded." He is that same individual that some people call "Doubting Thomas" in reference to the story found in John 20:24-29. Consider the unfairness of the "Doubting Thomas" label setting him apart from the other apostles who had likewise doubted the news of Jesus' resurrection until they too personally interacted with the risen lord (Luke 24:10-11). By setting aside that bad rap of doubting, we more clearly see that Thomas was a valiant and faithful apostle. He traveled as far as India to share Jesus' teachings. The sayings of Jesus, recorded by St. Thomas, were put into the Haiku format by Rev. Thomas E. Uharriet for this series: Inspirational Haiku of Ancient Wisdom for Enlightenment. Part of Rev. Uharriet's pleasure in writing this series-and in doing other spiritual work-is that he finds the same transcendental truths emerging from all parts of the world, but couched in different terms. As you read this series, you can fit the various teachings together like puzzle pieces revealing the same magnificent picture. It all comes together broadening those teachings, making them all more joyously meaningful. Through his many years of spiritual exploration, religion courses, seminars, workshops, research, retreats, and travels, Rev. Thomas E. Uharriet found that everything worthwhile comes back to love. "Love everyone" is his life motto and is woven into the fabric of his life, his books, and his speaking engagements. Besides writing, Rev. Thomas E. Uharriet enjoys meditation, energy work, Yoga, hiking, travel, enlightening books, music, art, beauty, theater, thought-provoking movies, public speaking, social media, meaningful discussions with friends and with his five sons, and excellent smoothies.
