About the Book

Golden Throat is a raw, heart-pounding epic adventure of danger, love and menacing intrigue, the premier release of a non-stop murder mystery set in 1930's L.A. by author James P. Alsphert. Golden Throat is about the life and times of Cable Denning, an ex-cop turned private eye who faces head-on the forces and violence of an unjust world both in this and other dimensions. Alsphert introduces Cable Denning as a hero and vigilante in this book #1 of a spell-binding 22-book murder mystery series. As an L.A. policeman, he is disillusioned with the corruption within the L.A.P.D., and he ultimately opts for the life of a private detective and the adventure begins. The beginning of the book opens at what first appears to be a typical crime scene. Cable accidentally stumbles upon a mysterious golden capsule lodged in the throat of a not-quite human victim at the local morgue. This results in a dangerous and covert case that will follow and haunt him as he is pursued by sinister under-ground criminals and powerful organizations, both terrestrial and non-terrestrial. The case requires searching for a RED DRAGON LADY named Lei-Tao, the chosen protector of the stolen capsule and a shape-changer who transforms herself into an exquisitely beautiful female form. Lei-Tao transports Cable to her dimension where she reveals to him the secrets of the precious capsule, known as the fen de fuqin, which contains the blueprint of DNA, the helixes of human design and the what and why of creation. Cable is transfixed by her beauty and Lei-Tao's passions are awakened to the handsome human male. An inter-dimensional union ensues which ultimately leads them into the euphoria of tantric sex. Cable Denning's earthly life includes dastardly and comical entanglements, as well as romantic encounters with many beautiful women. Honey Combes, whom he helps to launch a successful musical career at a local supper club, becomes his fiancée. Coincidentally he meets the lovely Adora Moreno and a deep, tender and passionate love affair is born. Always looking over his shoulder into the shadows of constant danger, and armed with his .38, a packet of Lucky Strikes and a hidden flask of gin, he hears a distant sax playing in his head as he walks the streets of L.A., escaping whenever possible into the smoky dives, searching out the sultry voice of an alluring songstress, as she pours out the heartbeat of the city through the Great American Songbook. The climactic conclusion of Golden Throat finds Cable facing a series of tragic events with heartbreak and loss at the hands of an insane and jealous Mafia henchman, devastated to hear that Lei-Tao has been punished for her sexual trespasses and banished from her domain-and he faces the nefarious Nasar Ravna, not to mention the Mafia and the Vatican! In an attempt to drown his sorrows, Cable drinks himself into oblivion. From the midst of seemingly overwhelming horror and psychic trauma, fate comes to his rescue and Cable emerges with one of his brilliantly observant narratives that always ends with him back on his feet and ready for his next case, answering his telephone, "Yeah, Cable Denning here..."
About the Author: On James P. Alsphert...author First we'll reveal that James P. Alsphert is a pseudonym......a pen name and leave it at that. Born in San Francisco the young James was, from an early age, interested in astronomy, astrophysics and simply gazing at stars. He began to journal when he was only twelve years of age. His mind wondered about many things, but particularly, are we alone in the universe? James wrote his first sci-fi reality based adventure "TWIW DON" when he was but a lad of thirteen. "THE STORY OF TSOC" followed and then his interest turned to poetry and philosophy, embracing the works of Thoreau, Emerson, Longfellow, Shakespeare and both American and British classical writers. He did not return to fiction seriously until well into his older years. Educated in Southern California - particularly the Los Angeles basin - Alsphert became very familiar with the area in which his father lived. Intrigued by a friend of his father's who in reality, was a private detective......he eventually modeled his own detective Cable Denning after many of those same intriguing characteristics. Alsphert is knowledgeable about music of many kinds and incorporates much of that in several of Cable's escapades. He currently resides in Northern California. James P. Alsphert says he has a strong spiritual nature, and continues to study the aspects of inter-dimensional travel, UFO case histories and the hidden things that 'go bump in the night'. "After all," he says, "there's one hell of a Universe out there!"
