About the Book

This work of Joseph Hussey treats the subject of preaching the gospel in light of the distinguishing doctorines of grace. This is as relevant today as it was in the 18 century as there are those who call themselves Calvinists but are not and advocate "Duty Faith" and "Duty Repentance", terms that are used to express a belief that it is the duty of all men, every where, to receive and accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their own personal saviour. There are those historically, such as Richard Baxter and Andrew Fuller, who advocated, "Duty Faith" and 'Duty Repentance', in the UK and as a result brought about a great division the among Particular Baptists and Presbyterians and evangelicals. I am not sure about America. This work of Joseph Hussey denies "Duty Faith" and "Duty Repentance" and demonstrates that saving faith is a free grace gift of God, bestowed upon those being effectually called by the Spirit of God, and who are stilled the elect. That is those for who the Lord Jesus died. This book is published to assist Preterits' studying eschatology and all Calvinists, as it is important to have a correct understanding of the nature of the fall of Man and the corruption of human nature in order to see the glory of free grace.
About the Author: Joseph Hussey (1660-1726) was an English Calvinist and congregationalist minister. Hussey was born in Fordingbridge, Hampshire. After studying with the ejected minister Robert Whitaker, he attended Charles Morton's dissenting academy at Newington Green. He attributed a 1686 conversion to the reading of Stephen Charnock's The Existence and Attributes of God. Hussey underwent Presbyterian ordination in 1688. He was pastor at Hitchin, and then from 1691 in Cambridge, Stephen Scandrett preaching as he took up the post. At that time the congregation met at the Hog Hill church, where a piece of land had been bought in 1687 on the basis of the Declaration of Indulgence; and it took on the name "Great Meeting".From 1694 Hussey's Cambridge church was congregational; but there was a Presbyterian secession in 1696, who moved to a meeting in Green Street. He moved to a ministry in Petticoat Lane, London, in 1719.
