About the Book

In 2017 I received a folder from my Aunt Dee (the youngest daughter of Dorothy and the Reverend Lynn Corson) which contained 89 reflections my grandfather had written. In 2024 after my Aunt Dee passed, I was reminded of the folder she had given me. I read through the writings and was impressed how the reflections from the 1940s and 1950s are still timely and relevant today. My grandfather had written the collection while he was the minister at the Princeston Methodist Church and the Haddonfield Methodist Church, both located in New Jersey.

I found them funny, sad, and timely. Reading through some of the reflections I thought they could have been written today. They contain discussions of the political environment at the time, the legacy of war, religious commitment, moral behavior, and what it means to be a Christian.

I hope you find the reflections, written by my grandfather, inspirational whatever your faith.

The below is from Lynn H Corson's daughter, Jane Corson Henry. She discusses what this book means to her:
Lynn Hough Corson, my father, was handsome, fun loving, charismatic, father of five children, grandfather of fifteen, a loving husband, pastor of several churches, teacher, counselor, and a man of God.
As a young child, sitting through his sermons, I would pay attention, listening for his third point which would mean that the end of the service was near.

This is why it is truly a blessing to have this book of his reflections. I realize how inspirational, thoughtful, and well written they are. Many conform to our concerns of the day. They are such a comfort to me.
Because of his guidance and sharing of his love of God with his children, all have been true believers and active in our faith.

Our father would awaken us in the morning with "This is the day the Lord has made, rejoice and be glad in it."
Thank you, Daddy.

Jane Corson Henry

Lynn Corson's first appointment, in May 1930, was to the Methodist Church at Hopewell, N. J. In the years following he served as the pastor of Methodist Churches in Linvale, Amwell, Pemberton, Hamilton Avenue in Trenton, Calvary Church in Keyport, and the First Methodist Church in Princeton where he served as minister from 1942 to 1950. In March of 1950 he received his appointment to the Methodist Church in Haddonfield N.J. where he served from 1950 to 1961.
In 1961 Dorothy and Lynn left New Jersey for the west coast where Lynn served churches in Seattle and Long Beach California. He retired in 1970 to Cape May Court House, New Jersey, where he was the minister for the North Wildwood Methodist church. Lynn Corson passed away on Dec 14, 1973
