About the Book

For those few smart enough to be asking the big questions and those few willing and able to seek answers for themselves rather than pay the priest, preacher, or rabbi for their answers, Coleman's book takes the reader back to the original source -- the Torah and Bible. It helped him He wrote the bnook believing you will be similarly helped.
About the Author: At age eight, I recall awakening late at night in the storeroom converted into a bedroom at my adoptive grandparent's house, hinking the words, 'Someday I'll start my own religion, ' the inspiration being Rev. Hall, my Episcopal minister during ages 5-10, who terrified me every Sunday by grilling us in "Kids Church" grades 1-9, first graders up front and the big kids in the back, to name the disciples in the stainmed glass "Last Supper," or recite the books of the Old and New Testament, in order, lest you incur Rev. Hall's stern stare of rebuke, the laughing scorn of the church full of kids, and God's displeasure. or so I was told. I ducked out of sighjt behind the pew as soon as Rev. Hall's head tunred in my direction.. (For five years -- one with perfect attendance, I avoided Rev. Hall's inquisition. Being parentless and borderline poor, having to sign my name on each offering envelope, persuaded me the measure of my Christianity, as judged by Reverend Hall, was tied directly to the amount in the envelope. AND Reverend Hall, who purported to be in daily contact with God, was keeping score and submitting reports. The result being I dreaded Sundays, faced "Kid's Church" with the same trepidation as the dentist's chair ( my dentist hadn't discovered novocaine in the early 40's or if he had, didn't use it on me. By age 8, I was deeply troubled by the disconnect between being memorizing the books of the Bible, in order, and and Christ's life and teaching. I carried this concern into my teens where I was influenced by Steinbeck's "To a God Unknown," to college, where I became a philosophy major, took every course in religion I could, and made careful observations of those who professed to be Christians concluding that those who professed most loudly were the least Christian. For example, my boyhood neighbor and friend. who snuck cigarettes, stole stuff from neighbors gardens, and took girls behind the bushes, when the rest of us in elementary school would run into the bushes to get away from girls, and as a sophomore, was the one who lead the choir and Rev Hall as they paraded through the Church in the beginning and at the end. Guess who was the only kid in my high school expelled for getting a girl pregnant -- Rev Halls' hand-picked altar boy.
