About the Book

This is a book that will challenge your ideas and comfort your mind, that will make you cross and yet give you peace. It is a book that respects your views yet introduces you to something that is entirely new. That will make you laugh and then cause you to cry. It is about God and His Children.

In this fast-moving book, you are introduced to a group of people who soon become your friends. They are like the neighbours next door and you will soon recognise them in the characters that you meet in its pages. You will hear their arguments and challenge their claims. You may even hear your own voice being added to those of the group discussions.

Book Reviews
Tom Holland brings to this book the wisdom of a long-serving minister, the heart of a caring pastor, and the knowledge of an internationally respected theologian. That is a very rare combination and no subject is better served by it than a discussion of prayer. In these pages, you will discover not only profound truth simply explained but answers to the questions we have all asked when struggling to pray. - Rev. Phil Hill BA, MPhil, Pastoral and Church Theologian, Union School of Theology

Tom Holland asks the right questions and thereby primes the pump for an eminently readable, engaging and informative reflection on the practice of prayer. All readers, whatever their spiritual maturity, will find much to stimulate their thinking and better equip them to pray. - Dr Lawson Murray, President - Scripture Union Canada.

The book deals with many questions about prayer, constantly asked by Christians; for instance, 'Why pray when God is sovereign? 'What about healing?' 'Since Jesus said "I do not pray for the world", should we pray for unbelievers?' All in all helpful, unusual and not without challenge for believers at every stage, although particularly helpful for those young in age and spiritual maturity. - Philip Grist in The Evangelical Times

This is a unique book. It's teaching on prayer through dialogue makes it an easy and fast-paced read that proves challenging to one's prayer life. And the characters bring to it a pastoral reality, as issues such as parenthood, bereavement, healing, and personal evangelism are dealt with. A great little aid for all of us who wrestle in prayer. - Natalie Brand, writer and mother

With questions for group discussion

In this creative presentation, you will share in the search that most people are engaged in, the search for the answers to the deeper questions of life.

Dr Tom Holland is an internationally famous theologian who applies his learning to the questions that most people are asking and provides clear answers that satisfy.
About the Author: Tom Holland was born in Liverpool UK during the German bombing raids. He grew up surrounded by the emerging talent that the city spawned, the most famous of course being the Beatles. But Tom's creativity was to be channelled elsewhere. He trained as an apprentice engineer (a scientific instrument maker) and then went to university to take a degree in engineering. It was while following this study that he had a deep sense of call that he was to give his life to Christian ministry, believing that he would be working as a missionary overseas. It was during his theological training that he was encouraged to consider becoming a pastor. This led him to accept an invitation to plant a church in a city 25 miles from Cambridge. This proximity was to be significant because he has one of the worlds best theological libraries, Tyndale House, half an hours drive away. Tom found that the commentaries he used for his sermon preparation often avoided dealing with issues he felt were important and attempting to sort these issues out eventually lead to him being awarded a PhD in NT theology by the University of Wales. Tom was at that church as its pastor for 18 years. A few years later he planted another church in a small town about six miles away from the original work. Both churches continue to serve their communities with gospel led ministries. Tom was invited to join the staff of a college that has since become known as Union School of Theology. He was director of Biblical research and now in retirement, he is the Schools Senior Research Fellow. He has written a number of books which include Contours of Pauline Theology, Romans: The Divine Marriage, Romans, Hope for the Nations and Tom Wright and the Search for Truth. Tom has travelled the world as a lecturer and preacher. He brings his wide pastoral experience and his widely acknowledged academic achievements together in writing this practical book, which is for everyone!
