About the Book

A chill went through Adam, an awful premonition that all was not well. Besides, he thought, he had already tried all the fruits in the garden, except... He turned toward Eve."Where did you get this fruit?" he asked. "The serpent gave it to me," Eve said. "What serpent?" he asked."The serpent in the tree."Adam towered over Eve. "Which tree?" Adam asked, louder this time."It's from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil," Eve said. "The serpent told me it was all right. He said if we eat this fruit we will become gods. He's been eating it and it made him learn to talk."Unconsciously, Adam's fist clenched on the fruit in his hand. Light orange juice ran down his arm and dripped off his elbow, but he didn't notice. Stark, raving terror was niggling at the back of his brain, and he reacted in anger."You didn't eat it, did you?" he thundered.Eve shrank back. "Don't be angry," she said in a small voice."You didn't eat it, did you?" he thundered again, even louder.Eve began to be angry now. "Yes, I did," she said, "And it was good. I'm a little bit wiser already. At least I'm not yelling!""No!" Adam shouted. "No! No! No! You couldn't have! You'll die! No! No! Noooo!"Adam turned away and leaned his elbow against a tree, buried his face in his arm and cried. He knew what would happen. Eve would die, and he would be left all alone. An eternity alone stretched out before him, and he couldn't bear it. From his position in the serpent, Satan poured images of loneliness into Adam's brain.Suddenly Adam noticed the mangled fruit in his hand. Straightening, he threw the pulpy mass as far as he could, not noticing that it landed squarely on the head of the serpent.Eve trembled at his tirade, but tried again, still not convinced that what she had heard from the serpent was wrong."The serpent said that we wouldn't die." she began. "He said the fruit would make us wise and that we would be like God, and know both good and evil. Don't you want to be like God?"Adam tried to control his anger and grief, but the hurt was too great. "No! No! No!" he said. "Don't you see? This is the work of that evil angel God told us about on the day we were created. He told us that if we ate the fruit of the tree, we would die that very day! Tell me you didn't eat that fruit!"Eve fell back and her face went white. Suddenly she knew that Adam was right. Sheer terror such as she had never known tore through her heart, and she threw herself in Adam's arms and screamed. "Save me! I don't want to die! Help me! What can we do?""Then you did eat the fruit?"Eve was sobbing uncontrollably now, but she nodded, and gave a barely audible "Yes."Adam's head reeled. Despair tore through him. How could he go on with life without his beloved Eve, this woman made from his own flesh, which he had so come to love? His heartbreak was intensified by despair and hopelessness Satan whispered into Adam's mind. "You know you don't have to go on without her," Satan whispered. Suddenly Adam's mind was made up. He reached down and picked up one of the fruits which had fallen on the ground. "If you must die, you won't die alone," he said, and put the fruit in his mouth."No! You can't," she screamed, and tried to get the fruit from him, but it was too late and the deed was done. Savagely he bit the fruit and swallowed, then threw the rest of the fruit away, hitting the serpent again as he did so."Yahoo!" Satan shouted, exiting the snake and leaving him shaking his head, trying to dislodge the fruit. "Yahoo!" he said again, speaking in a spiritual realm that Adam and Eve could no longer detect. He was so excited that he was doing back flips in the air. This is a dramatic, yet Biblically accurate retelling of the Bible story of the fall of Satan, the creation of our world, the entrance of sin and the flood. The story ends with the restoration of Adam to the Garden of Eden.
