La presente colección surge de la misma inquietud que originó el libro Al margen, la glosa. Aquella selección se centraba en ensayos de tema español que decidí juntar para que el estudiante o el interesado en investigar los autores allí comentados tuviera un texto en el que estuvieran reunidas esas selecciones que previamente se encontraban solamente en revistas académicas. Como es sabido, muchas veces es difícil dar con la totalidad de los textos que buscamos cuando investigamos y es práctica corriente el escoger y presentar a modo de libro una compilación de trabajos dispersos. Espero, con este mismo propósito en mente, que este libro sirva y sea de provecho para muchos.Inicialmente pensé meramente reunir todos los textos que no incluí en Al margen, la glosa. Mientras revisaba los ensayos noté que algunos compartían cierta temática de manera directa o transversal, por lo que volví entonces a seleccionar y dejar fuera aquellos que no participaban de las inquietudes reconocidas. En estos ensayos, noto que domina el tema de la precisión o imprecisión discursiva y como este factor incidía en las nociones de identidad y conflicto, vistos estos conceptos de manera múltiple.Al hablar de "identidad" me refiero por supuesto a la pretensión individual o colectiva de generar una personalidad sicológica y cultural cuando se aceptan unos márgenes y unas definiciones que afianzan la noción de distinción frente a una posible otredad (otra persona, otra cultura, etc.). Por conflicto entiendo la reacción activa o pasiva de una persona o una entidad social al encuentro e interacción con una persona distinta, una cultura distinta o un cuerpo nacional o político distinto. También presento el manejo del conflicto interior, en que se ve la reacción ante uno mismo, o ante la imposibilidad de poder comunicarse con otra parte. El lector podrá a su vez distinguir los elementos que definen mi perspectiva particular según contraste el aprecio que hago de los temas y los textos. Hago la salvedad porque no pretendo en esta prefación indicar mi adscripción a un sistema particular, pues he manejado varios y mi interés mayor se centra en la actitud crítica del discurso que adopto, no en sustentar o defender una escuela de pensamiento social, político o estético, según sea el caso.Los ensayos no siguen un orden cronológico particular, sea de la historia literaria o de fecha de publicación. La única libertad que me he tomado en este sentido ha sido la decisión de cerrar la colección con el ensayo en torno al Libro de buen amor. La razón es sentimental, puesto que fue el primer ensayo de tema literario que publiqué. A su vez, su juego con el concepto de la identidad fluctuante que se impone en el texto de Hita, viene a recordarme que en cada ser humano se barajan los mismos conflictos a la hora de querer construir su identidad propia, o a la hora de rechazar (o renunciar a) tal empresa, siempre asediada por la angustia o lo imprevisto. Lo he dejado casi intacto, para que el lector tenga una idea del andamio conceptual (o demencial) que me entusiasmaba en aquellos años, tal vez excesivo para muchos, pero intrigante o divertido para otros.Decidí emplear de manera uniforme un mismo sistema de citas. He preferido dejar entre paréntesis dentro del texto la referencia a la página del segmento citado, que de no comentarse en el texto ha de verse en la página de bibliografía. Empleo las notas, que van al final de cada ensayo, para añadir información o presentar una cita marginal pero relevante. En caso de que haya referencias de más de un texto de un mismo autor se hará mención del título en el texto o entre paréntesis.(...)
