Tone, forse dormente quando la bella consorte sua li si tolse per nuovo amore, di ci� accorto, videsi non molto lontano a col�, ove l'aurora discendere s'era veduta, sovra di un'altra gran nugola in aria apparire. Egli aveva rabbuffata barba e chioma canuta, e quasi che dal sonno frettoloso levatosi infuriato, rinvolto in uno spazioso manto, che pure per l' ampiezza sua, maestade a lui apportava, quivi comparse mezzo giacendo, e quasi stanco la guancia posando su 1' una mano traendo a s� la seconda volta al cielo gli occhi delli stupidi riguardatori. Poscia con dolcissime voci in profondi accenti pianse in cordogliosi versi sdruccioli la perduta donna, con malinconosi sembianti e gravi per gran pensiero, richiamandola pi� volte al conforto suo, in terra mirando. Varc�, sempre querelan dosi, tutta la scena: e quello che in ci� di grandissima maraviglia ciascuno ne riempie si fu, che la nugola tutta, doppia per molte falde, cos� andando, come adiviene naturalmente, moveasi ondeg giante; e avanzandosi sovente e sovente disminuendo et una et altra figura si vide prendere per varie guise; ora di un delfino o cavallo, ora di una selva o d'una montagna, o d'altro indistinto componimento informandosi senza eessarsi. Quindi, mentre che gi� dell'estremit� di quella piumosa machina poco vedeasi, che ne era passata a nascondersi oltre le scene tra l'altre nugole, 'il tutto cam biar si vide; et acqua e mare farsi per un gran pelago, dove e rano e selve e terra; solo di terra scorgendosi per profondissime lontananz�, isole e monti azzurricci; e bassi per la imaginata finta distanza, e per le punte assai basso posto di quella prospettiva sfuggente. L' onde che vi si vedeano tutte spumanti si udivano gorgogliare, e miravansi in se stesse frangersi e sovragiugnersi rientrando. Ma il miracolo di tal dilettevolissima scena molto pi� oltre and� procedendo, a piacevol confusione di chi lo vide; im per� che da una banda un' crea, e vero balena grandissima, di braccia quattordici dell' acque, quasi dal profondo traendosi e discuotendosi, e faticandosi nel nuoto all'ins�, inaspettatamente si vide sorgere. E dall'altra un carro con quattro cavalli n' apparse, macchina a quella per grandezza non diseguale. I quali cavalli, innalzando fuori in prima sole le molli teste, non si lasciarono ben discernere: ma poco appresso, battendo frequentemente le zampe, parendone di grado in grado ascendere alla superficie dell'acque, si dimostrarono interi. Anelavano spumanti, scotevano le crinite fronti, e non potevano esser frenati. Reggevali lucidissimo auriga in destra e graziosa postura dritto sul carro, che d'oro e di gemme tutto Splendente, si come le redini di quelli erano, di squisitissimo lavoro composto era, quale convenevole ne pareva, dovendosi per - 18.
