Na 1994 moes ons lees van barbaarse marteling, uiterste en sinnelose geweld, politieke moorde by die dosyne - alles geskryf om sensasie te soek en verkope aan te help of te wel my vertaling, liberale twak. Die anderkant van die storie, daar is altyd meer as een kant van 'n storie, agter die skerms, is nooit vertel nie en dus nooit gelees nie. Tot nou toe. Gewetenlose Strate is outobiografies en gebaseer op feite, dit is nie fiksie nie en stelliglik die naaste wat enige nie-lid aan daardie dae kan kom. Wees gewaarsku, dit is geensins jou gewone "kom ons haat die SAP" of "arme troepie, kry my jammer" tipe boek nie maar 'n seldsame en in diepte blik op die lewe in die SAP in die laaste vyf jaar voor mnr Nelson Mandela vrygelaat is. Dit vertel die 'n verhaal van 'n polisie sersant, 'n junior lid, wat groot geword het in Apartheid Suid Afrika en aansluit by die SAP op ouderdom 18, net na skool. Hy kon universiteit toe gegaan het maar hy het die SAP gekies omdat sy doel was om kriminele en terroriste te jag en dood te maak, indien nodig. Soos die lewe is, God se sin vir humor is verstommend, sou hy aangaan en na sy tyd in die SAP 'n prokureur word by een van die mees bekendste menseregte firmas in Afrika. 'n Unieke verhaal wat raak opgesom is deur 'n paar resente: "Dit was 'n besondere voorreg om jou boek te kon lees. Jou eerlikheid en jou onskuld "brand" na die oppervlakte deur soos 'n vergrootglas se hitte 'n wit vel papier skroei. Jy skryf van goed wat ek lankal van vergeet het. Dankie vir die herinneringe!" Of, "Ek het jou Gewetenlose Strate rêrig baie geniet. Dit is die boek wat die grootste venster oopgemaak het vir iemand soos ek, ʼn buitestaander, om te kan verstaan hoe ʼn polisieman se kop werk, hoe Kollege was, die tipe mens wat van so ʼn avontuurlike en fisiese werk sou hou." As jy 'n misdaad in die polisiemanne se teenwoordigheid gepleeg het, vir watter rede ookal, is daar opgetree, hardhandig as nodig, maar ook met innige simpatie soms. Gewetenlose Strate behandel kwessies wat nie in ander boeke geskryf word nie, bv die regsvrae agter alles, vrae wat die meeste nie eers van weet nie. Dit wys hoe 'n edele organisasie, die land se Polisiemag, in 'n "instrument van onderdrukking" verander het as gevolg van politieke inmengery en wette gemaak deur gewetenlose politici. Alle blaam, nie gedeeltelik nie, alles, lê by die Nasionale Party, nie by die SAP nie. Apartheidswette wat afgedwing moes word en afgedwing is - dis 'n waarskuwing wat gebeur as daar geen Handves van Menseregte is om gewetenlose politici te stop nie, die polisiemag word onteer en die skuldiges gaan was voetjies iewers. About the Author: Koos Kotze is a former member of the South African Police Force. He served between 1985 and 1991 primarily as a sergeant in the Pretoria Flying Squad. During his police years, he was awarded the South African Police Medal for Combating Terrorism twice besides lesser awards. After leaving the Police Force he obtained the law degrees B Iuris & LLB at the University of the Free State (Bloemfontein, South Africa) and was a commercial law attorney for eight years. These days he is the owner of JKLS Africa and Associates, a specialist legal consultancy which specializes in hostage survival training and reducing legal risk in Sub Saharan Africa. He wrote several books on business, law, counter-terrorism and security issues. At times he is asked to participate on the Voice of America regarding legal forensic matters. Koos is a widower and lives in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
