Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2002 im Fachbereich Theaterwissenschaft, Tanz, Note: 1,3, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (Institut für Theater und Medienwissenschaften), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Als 1998 Roberto Benignis Film Das Leben ist schön in die Kinos kam, provozierte er eine sehr kontrovers geführte Debatte um die angemessene Darstellung von Auschwitz und der Massenvernichtung der europäischen Juden im Medium Film. Zum einen wurde an dem Film kritisiert, dass die Leiden der Insassen von Konzentrationslagern in einer Komödie gezeigt werden, zum anderen war die mangelnde Authentizität Gegenstand der Angriffe. Guido, die männliche Hauptfigur, lügt im Film seinem vierjährigen Sohn Giosue vor, Auschwitz sei nur ein Spiel; es werde nach Punkten bewertet, wie gut man die Schwierigkeiten übersteht, und der Sieger werde einen echten Panzer gewinnen. Diese Fabel, angelegt in einer Komödie, zog sich schnell den Vorwurf zu, den Holocaust zu verharmlosen und seinem Gegenstand nicht gewachsen zu sein. Die Debatte, in die sich auch der Schriftsteller und Auschwitz-Überlebende Imre Kertesz einschaltete, wurde mit Argumenten geführt, die, seit es Literatur über den Holocaust gibt, immer wieder auftauchen. Wichtig ist hierbei die Frage, ob eine fiktionale Darstellung des Holocaust machbar ist, und inwieweit eine solche Fiktion in historischen Dokumenten fußen sollte. Der Schriftsteller Kertesz spricht sich eindeutig für eine fiktionale Bearbeitung des Stoffes aus, für ihn ist "das Konzentrationslager (...) ausschließlich als Literatur vorstellbar, als Realität nicht".1 Ihm gegenüber stehen so prominente Persönlichkeiten wie Theodor W.
