Jahrhundert steht der Begriff Kreativität hoch im Kurs und das Schöpferische wird als grundlegend positiver Wert angesehen." (Holm‐Hudalla, 2011, S. 7) Im wirtschaftlichen Zusammenhang ist dieser Wert von besonderem Interesse, da durch menschliche Kreativität neue und bessere Produkte, Dienstleistungen und unternehmensinterne Prozesse geschaffen und somit hohe Gewinnmargen und machtvolle Marktpositionen erzielt werden können. Prominente Beispiele für den Erfolg guter Ideen in neuen Märkten sind Facebook und Google, die binnen weniger Jahre mittels einer guten Idee und einer geschickten Umsetzung dieser einen Unternehmenswert von 100 und 200 Milliarden US-Dollar erreichen konnten. (vgl. Greive, Seibel & Zschäpitz, 2012) Aber auch Innovationen, die nicht in erster Linie die Gewinnerzielung fokussieren, werden immer stärker nachgefragt, um die zunehmenden gesellschaftlichen und umweltbezogenen Probleme auf der Welt zu lösen. Da z.B. der Hunger einer immer größeren Anzahl von Menschen auf der Erde immer weniger durch die konventionellen Anbaugebiete befriedigt werden kann, haben Hohenheimer Forscher das Konzept des Skyfarming entwickelt, das den umweltschonenden Reisanbau auf 50 Etagen ermöglicht. Südwestrundfunk, 2012) Mit der zunehmenden Notwendigkeit der Generierung von neuen Geschäftsideen steigt auch die Nachfrage an Konzepten und Methoden, die bei der Ideengenerierung unterstützen und Handlungsempfehlungen in diesem Zusammenhang geben.
