Trägt die Ganztagsschule zu besseren Lernergebnissen bei, besonders für Schüler aus ressourcenärmeren Haushalten? In der Arbeit geht es vordergründig darum, einen ersten Überblick der Ganztagsschule zu bekommen, indem eine Begrenzung des Themas auf dem Zusammenhang der sozialen Herkunft und der Bildungs(un)gleichheit vorliegt. Zu Beginn wird die Ganztagsschule im allgemeinen Sinne definiert, ehe anschließend auf die verschiedenen Formen der Ganztagsschule eingegangen. Darauf aufbauend wird darauf eingegangen, was eine Ganztagsschule leistet. Als Einblick dafür werden zuerst neue Bildungsmöglichkeiten nach Züchner sowie ein Modell einer individuellen Bildungsplanung nach Spies vorgestellt. Im Fokus des dritten Kapitels steht der Zusammenhang der sozialen Herkunft mit dem Bildungserfolg.
