Junto con el gánster, viaja por carretera de Lisboa a Barcelona, donde se ven envueltos en situaciones de peligro y coacción, toda una red de intrigas que llevará al agente -personaje quijotesco que busca en el cumplimiento del deber la redención de una vida personal desgarrada- hasta el corazón mismo de la gran tragedia de los atentados terroristas del 11-M.

Paralelamente, la novela muestra el pasado de Abu Salem, desde sus humildes inicios en un pueblo del interior de la India a su acceso al mundo criminal de Bombay, donde conocerá a Monica Bedi. Al más puro estilo del llamado Bombay Noir, el autor nos describe la experiencia de Salem en el crimen organizado, la extorsión a celebridades de Bollywood y, finalmente, su ruptura con la mafia, debida a conflictos tan ambiguos como dolorosos.
