Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 1998 im Fachbereich Theologie - Historische Theologie, Kirchengeschichte, Note: 1,0, Universität Hamburg (Kirchen- und Dogmengeschichte), Veranstaltung: Proseminar "Regula Benedicti", Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In Kap. 28 der Regula Benedicti nehmen die Sanktionen für Mönche, die gegen die Klosterregel verstoßen haben, eine bisher kaum beachtete Wendung: Wenn alle Strafen nichts nützen, um den Mönch zur Besserung zu bewegen, soll für ihn gebetet werden, damit der allmächtige Gott die Besserung wirkt. Erst wenn das nichts nützt, soll der Mönch ausgeschlossen werden. Die vorliegende Untersuchung fragt nach den kirchen- und theologiegeschichtlichen Hintergründen dieser Wendung. Das theologische Interesse liegt dabei auf den beiden Fragen, warum der zu Bessernde erst Züchtigungen über sich ergehen lassen muss, wenn Gebet doch besser wirkt, und warum es bei Gottes Allmacht nach Benedicts Ansicht offenbar dennoch möglich ist, dass das Gebet nichts nützt. Die Arbeit kommt zu dem Zwischenergebnis, dass erst Klosterregeln im 6. Jahrhundert das Gebet im Zusammenhang mit Sanktionen erwähnen, die Verantwortung für die Besserung oder den Ausschluss in den älteren Regeln des 4. Jahrhunderts noch ganz beim Menschen liegt. Sie kommt zu dem Schlluss, dass die Problematik des Verhältnisses von göttlichem und menschlichem Handeln im 6. Jahrhundert bereits deutlicher bewusst war. Dieses Thema wurde im 5. Jahrhundert im größeren Rahmen im pelagianischen Streit verhandelt. Eine kurze Zusammenfassung der wichtigsten Positionen dieses Streits und ihre Anwendung auf das Klosterleben erlauben es, die These zu wagen: Benedict hat wahrscheinlich unbewusst die augustinische Prädestinationslehre auf den Mikrokosmos des Klosters übertragen. Wichtiger als dogmatische Schlüssigkeit war ihm jedoch, bei einer praktikablen Ordnung des Klosterlebens gleichzeitig dem Verdacht des Pelagianismus zu entgehen. Das ist ihm mit Kap. 28. der Regula Benedicti gelungen.
